WHICH TRAINING COURSES WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE ACCESS TO AS A TEACHER?. WHY? WHICH IS, IN YOUR OPINION, THE BEST WAY TO SHARE GOOD PRACTICE AMONGST TEACHING PROFESSIONALS? WHY?
Longlife learning refers to the way adults keep
learning no matter what kind of job they have. We live in a changing society
and we need to adapt it. The needs of pupils are different and we have to be
able to design an educational environment
so that students could get the skills and tools necessary for their current and
future lives.
This way, the courses I think they are more
crucial are related to:
-
Languages: the CLIL treatment is very
important nowadays. Through this methodology we can reach a real language
learning. We live in a global world which makes necessary to learn one or more
foreign languages to communicate to everybody, in different countries. To find
interesting resources for your subject is a priority. We are starting to teach following
this method, so we still are lack of resources. Learning the way of creating
new activities and contents is a key point.
Furthermore, I consider it´s necessary to create a network in order to
share these resources.
-
Group dynamics: to know how to engage people in a
group, what type of dynamics exist, which techniques benefit the group atmosphere, to improve the
relationship among schoolmates and teacher and above all, how to foster the communication. These type of
tools would help to improve my CLIL method.
-
My specific content: community development is a very
complex topic which involves many different authors with different visions.
There is an urgent need of getting updated as new burning issues are coming out from new real situations.
- New technologies: every year there is a new program or
application that would be necessary for me. In this regard, I think it´s necessary to take up an annual
technology course. Internet resources
can be very useful to organize and
improve our daily class.
IF YOU WERE NOT LIMITED BY THE DEMANDS OF THE NATIONAL/REGIONAL CURRICULUM, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WOULD TEACH YOUR STUDENTS ABOUT YOUR SUBJECT (IN A CLIL CONTEXT). HOW WOULD YOU ASSES THEIR LEARNING?
If I have
this hypothetical situation, I think that I would organise more team groups and
more experienced activities. I would focus in the process rather than in the
content, the final achievement. This way, I would arranged my activities
prioritizing one contents over others.
For example,
in CLIL context, we have to use four principles in my subject, community
development.
CULTURE:
I would visit different events that
it happens in our community: cultural events,
festivities, to know the traditional crafts, to talk about reference
people, to be in a dairy activities in associations, socio-cultural centers… I
would find interesting that students
could establish interaction among people from other communities. Also, I would
be interested in foreign people who speak English to practice one another.
COMMUNICATION:
As a consequence, the culture
content is related to communication content.
They are directly related to. I would recommend to speak to native speakers:
teachers, adults teacher, immigrants, other students from other schools or
highschool. It would be wonderful to create videos about these experiences and
we can explain about them in English.
COGNITION:
Once we have created the atmosphere
and the context to speak and establish relation with the community´s
activities, students will learn the theoretical issues in English. In this
way we can make sure that the pupils have learnt the theory , based on their
experience.
CONTENT:
I would have compulsory content on
the one hand, because it´s necessary to understand the subject: the community
(and their parts) and the social resources. And, on the other hand, I would
have optional contents depending on type of activities we would do. I would have
time to attend students who are interested
in different topics in my subject. Students would choose what type of contents
are more attractive for them
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT MY PERSONAL TEACHING CONTEXT, WHAT WOULD BE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING THE ELP WITH MY GROUPS?
The European Language Portfolio is a personal
document that every student can fill in
with their improvements in learning English. My subject is Development Community and we could use it.
Now, I am
going to explain the advantages and disadvantages about this educational
linguistic resource.
ELP has some advantages. I consider that students could be aware of their progress every day. It´s a
motivational way to learn in the CLIL method. The three components of the ELP are:
-
Language Passport: it is recorded formal qualifications, and I
can see the learning individual process of English and the student as well.
There are three types of assesment: self, teacher and official exams. This
resource is more formal and it would be related to academic issues.
-
Language Biography: can be
interesting to record different social experiences that students can show about
themselves. For example, have conversations with foreign people with surveys, interviews…etc.
We can create fascinating experiences among people from different nationalities
and cultures.
-
My language dossier: in this section,
pupils can introduce the differents assignments. For example, in my subject
related to participation in different events in the community: social meetings,
discussion social- groups, volunteering
in an association, participation in different cultural activities…etc.
With regards
to disadvantages, we can see different problems that it could happen if I use
the ELP: In the first place, I can say that in order to develop this tool, you need time to show, explain and use it. However, teachers always need time to make
students get the objectives. It´s obvious that we want to use this tool,
it´s necessary to explain how to use it and explain how it will be used throughtout
school year. We need to balance what it
is more important to pupils according to time, pupils features and achievements.
To sum up, it´s
crucial when using the CLIL methodology to find resources to motivate our
students. ELP is one of those key
elements that can help us to do it.

ECLILT PROJECT
This article deal with a ECLILT project in which eight partner countries participate with the aim of
enhancing the quality and European dimension of teacher training in CLIL through the organization and delivery of pilot courses to stimulate the introduction of CLIL provision on a broader scale in secondary schools (pupils aged 11-18).
"The goals of the project were to:
1. Create a blended, trans-national model training course (on-line and face-to-face) for CLIL teacher trainers and pre-service and in-service secondary school subject teachers in CLIL adaptable to different countries, consisting of 120 hours (30 contact hours and an on-line component of 90 hours)
2. Provide a course guide book with sample material in the eight target languages
3. Create a CD-ROM with simulations of the way the learning platform's functionality and content have been exploited, together with extensive samples of the course material and peer exchanges."

Brief and interesting local video about participation: If you've ever wondered how to get young people involved in local projects, check out this new resource from the Ministry of Youth Development which shows you how. The Ministry of Youth Development is administered by the Ministry of Social Development.
My best teacher and how he inspired me to become a teacher
Since I was a child I wanted to be a teacher. I remember seeing my infant teachers and I felt admiration. It was a normal experience when you were discovering the adult world. Teachers were for me people I could trust, but I didn´t know why. Even more, I used to play to be a teacher and my friends were my pupils. I suppose it was a childhood thing. On the other hand, I don´t remember any teacher who has influenced on me in particular.
However I remember being more relaxed with sympathetic teachers. I was afraid when teachers asked me in class, or they were angry or annoyed for something. I hate when they created a bad atmosphere because we had a bad behaviour. I never dared to talk because I was very shy. I prefered to be with friendly teachers, although in their class pupils talked very much.
Until I arrived to University I have never admired the way of teaching. I remember specially my Philosophy of Education teacher . He made me think a lot about many things in life. His classes were about controversial situations. I thought that I would like to be like him when I were old. He was a knowledgeable person and he made us learn to think and consider a lot of things about our life.
To sum up, there are a lot of kind teachers, but it´s true that vocational teachers are clearly recognizable.
